Meet Our Coaches

Jim Phillips

2001 founder of Castro Valley Track Club and its head coach; native of Castro Valley and former track (440 and 330 low hurdles) and cross country athlete at Castro Valley High School (Spartan era, 1968-1972); Certified Level One Coach by USATF.

Dooney Jones

Since 2008, the Club's head sprint and jump coach and high school age coach. Starting in 2010, he is also the Head track and field coach at Castro Valley High School. Former head track and field coach at Mt Eden High School and former sprint and jump coach at James Logan High School. Father of Bailey and Kennedy.

Tyrenda Beatty

Throwers coach (emphasis on discus and shot); currently nationally ranked weight thrower, who will compete in discus, shot, and hammer. She is nationally ranked in the discus, shot put, hammer and weight, and the national masters weight pentathlon champ for her age group. Mother of Todd.

Tom Ashby

Distance coach; SF State track and cross country athlete; former CVTC youth runner.

Caren Watson

Assistant running coach for several years; Mother of Chantel and Camile.

Dennis Coulter

Assistant coach for several years, with emphasis on distance runners. Father of Erich and Andrew.

Mike Lee

Assistant coach for several years, with emphasis on distance Head hurdle coach at St. Mary High School and Castro Valley High School varsity running back football coach. Father of Allanah. USA Jr.. National Team 83-84, College All American 110HH Sac State 85 (2nd All time outdoor records Sac State Current), NCAA Finalist 85 110HH, Team USA international track & Field team 88-92, Best Mark 110HH 13.71 (Helsinki Finland 1991)
